Singles and Couples Welcome!
Scheduled classes and workshops are held in convenient locations in
Queen Anne, Ballard, and on Bainbridge
Island (see Maps for specific locations).
Classes usually run
in 4 to 6 week sessions and each class in a session
builds upon the previous week. Classes are usually one
hour in length with plenty of time for review, asking
questions and dancing to music. You’ll learn through
demonstrations, slowing down steps and breaking down
moves, practice, positive feedback, and individual
attention. You’ll learn footwork, moves, partnering
skills, the why's and wherefores, dance etiquette; and you’re encouraged to learn by making
mistakes (this is where new moves are invented!). Class
dance floor atmosphere is lighthearted, playful and
encouraging. By the end of the session or before,
you’ll know enough to be able to go out social dancing
if you wish.
Workshops and intermediate level classes are offered for experienced dancers to enhance their skills and learn new dance styles. Workshops are usually 2-4 hours on a weekend day with breaks about every hour, taught in the same style as classes, above, a collaberative process between students and instructors, with plenty of opportunity for student questions, input and problem solving.

Class Descriptions:

Secrets of Partner Dance - This is the place to start! You can do this in a class or private lesson setting! There are secrets to dancing with a partner that make it easy, fun, and beautiful, whether you are romantically Waltzing around the floor, exhuberantly Swinging to a Big Band sound, or doing a steamy Salsa. This class uses simple Blues -- a fun and versatile dance in itself -- as a basis to learn rhythm, movement, partnering skills, floorcraft, dance etiquette, and more. No pre-requisite
Blues 1 - Take your new "Secrets. . ." skills to a higher level with more movement, more moves, more dance floor play. This dance was the basis for the biggest dance craze in history in the late 1800's and early 1900's. They were upbeat and energetic back then, wild and crazy, and steamy and sultry as well. Learn how to style your Blues anyway you like 'em in this class. Pre-requisite: "Secrets. . ." or other dance experience
Swing
1 – This fun
and energetic partner dance of the 50’s and early 60’s
is playful and versatile. You’ll gain a strong
foundation in dance basics and partnering skills as you
learn plenty of great moves for the dance floor.
Pre-requisite: "Secrets. . ." or other dance experience
Salsa
1 - Passionate, energetic, and delightfully flirtatious,
this is one of the most popular dances in the world and
a great entrée into the romantic world of Latin
dancing.
Pre-requisite: "Secrets. . ." or other dance experience
Turning Waltz 1 - This is the essence of waltz, and the place to begin waltzing. You'll learn the magic, and the physics, of turning gracefully around the floor, like they do in the movies.
Pre-requisite: "Secrets. . ." or other dance experience
Slow Waltz 1 - When the music slows down, it's fun, beautiful and romantic to add interesting variations to your waltz steps. We'll play with some of the easier possibilities in this class.
Pre-requisite: "Secrets. . ." or other dance experience
Intermediate Level
Swing
2 – Take your dancing to a new level with Single Time,
Double Time, or Triple Time Swing. Each class offers
great new moves along with styling and more partnering
skills to improve your dancing. Each Swing 2 class
offers new material each session, so these classes may
be repeated indefinitely. These classes may be taken in
any order. Pre-requisite
Swing 1 and confidence with the material.
Single
Time - Learn new moves and
styling to develop your confidence and comfort dancing
to the faster tempos of Singletime Swing – often called
Jitterbug.
Double
Time – This touch-step rhythm lends itself to the vast array
of mid-tempo Swing music you’ll find out there. A fun
and challenging variation of this step is The Bop.
Triple
Time – Get into the groove and great styling of
Bandstand Swing along with more fun and challenging
moves at slower Swing tempos.
